Learning Center Facility

The Learning Center (C218) provides a welcoming environment for individual and collaborative study, with tables and comfortable chairs, and a self-serve coffee bar, which is a nice gathering point.  The Learning Center provides six computer stations linked to a common high-speed printer. It provides a wireless internet "hot-spot" where students and faculty members often gather with their laptops. A multiple-user TV/VCR/DVD station is also available.  An adjacent proctoring room (C215) provides space with minimized distraction for testing to accommodate students with disabilities. This room is available to students for quiet study or access to scanning and screen reading technology when not used for proctoring.

The Commons, located in the Francoise O’Hare Building on the Main Campus, provides students with newly renovated space for individual and collaborative study.  Peer tutoring is available in The Commons; tech support is available at the “Smart Bar.”  The Commons offers WiFi and a state-of-the-art printing and copying center.  Study Group Start Up Kits are available for students who want to create their own study groups for particular courses.  A Learning Center faculty member is available to provide supervision and support.

The MAST Program room (C218) contains office space for the MAST Learning Specialists and six computer stations with  assistive technology (see Disability Resources).  Quiet individual study is encouraged.

The Learning Center maintains a Tutoring Nook at the Waterfront Campus.  Peer tutoring is available for individuals and small groups for many of the courses taught on that campus; an English faculty tutor provides support for writing across the curriculum.  Appointments may be made at the Waterfront (WF) Information Desk, under the supervision of Claudete Marques, WF Academic Coordinator.  The WF Coordinator, in collaboration with the Coordinator of Disability Resources, supervises the delivery of reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities who are taking classes at that site.
