Located along the picturesque coastline of Southern California, Marymount College’s top priority is the individual student’s experience. The College was founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, an order of Catholic sisters who have devoted their lives to establishing schools where students’ lives are transformed through education. College Mourns the Passing of Jamel Kammoun, Ph.D.

Dear College colleagues and community members,

As you can well imagine, Professor Jamel Kammoun's passing in December was a great loss for his family. The College is working closely with Dr. Kammoun's wife to address the financial support of their three young daughters.

The faculty, staff and students of Marymount College extend their condolences to the family of Associate Professor Jamel Kammoun who passed away on Sunday, December 20.

“Marymount College is mourning the loss of a very gifted and caring professor,” says Dr. Michael S. Brophy, president of the College. “Dr. Kammoun inspired learning in students. He will be greatly missed by the College community.”

Teaching at the college since August 2001, Dr. Kammoun is remembered by a faculty colleague as a as a professor who changed the lives of many of his students, instilling in students a love of math and science through his dedicated scholarship and exemplary teaching.

During the spring term a memorial service will be held to pay tribute to Dr. Kammoun and his many contributions to Marymount College. Time and date will be announced.


Marymount College President, Dr. Michael S. Brophy visits Singapore

On January 12, Marymount College President, Dr. Michael S. Brophy, visited the beautiful and diverse city of Singapore.  He was welcomed there by the Hartono family, who are very good friends of Marymount College.  Their son, Norman Hartono, is a current Marymount student with plans to graduate this May.


Bon Appetit at Marymount College Recognized for “Best Practices”

Bon Appetit, the provider of food services at Marymount College, received a certificate and was recognized the City of Rancho Palos Verdes after having met a rigorous set of criteria that demonstrates its use of best management practices and housekeeping procedures.  At a City Council meeting on January 19, RPV Senior Engineer Ron Dragoo announced the continuation of the city’s partnership with the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission for the Clean Bay Restaurant certification program.

“RPV has been working with other South Bay cities to help promote restaurants that employ best management practices and good housekeeping procedures, “ said Dragoo.

“Restaurants typically handle a substantial amount of waste in the course of doing business,” he added.  “Improper disposal of waste, such as used cooking oil or leftovers, can contribute to pollutants to storm water running off, posing a serious threat to our beaches and oceans.”
 
“Congratulations to the food services team at Marymount College who not only prepare outstanding meals for our students, staff and faculty but who also pay attention to practices that protect our environment,” say President Michael S. Brophy.

Dr. Michael S. Brophy, visited the Hung Hoa diocese in Northern Vietnam

On January 16, Marymount College President, Dr. Michael S. Brophy, visited the Hung Hoa diocese in Northern Vietnam where he received a very warm welcome.  Marymount College hosts nuns from this diocese and Dr. Brophy had the opportunity to meet with Sister Ban and Sister Tuyet, both of whom plan to come to Marymount.

Dr. Michael S. Brophy visited the Al-Ali family in the Kingdom of Bahrain

On January 8, Marymount College President, Dr. Michael S. Brophy, visited the Al-Ali family in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  Dr. Brophy has been traveling this month to meet with our vibrant international community and to further strength the College’s global reach.

The Al-Ali family, who are very supportive of the College, was kind enough to give Dr. Brophy a wonderful tour of this progressive and dynamic Middle Eastern country.  

Their daughter, Eman Al-Ali, is a ‘03 alumna of Marymount College who has gone on to become a successful businesswoman working in real estate and finance.  Eman’s sister, Wadeeah , is currently attending Marymount College.
