Advising and Transfer Services

MISSION STATEMENT

The Office of Advising and Transfer Services at Marymount College offers an exceptional student-centered academic advising experience for men and women of diverse backgrounds, ages, and levels of academic preparedness.

Advising is an intentional teaching and learning process that promotes the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills. Techniques of developmental advising help students explore the value of a liberal arts education, identify educational objectives that are suited to their interests and abilities, and evaluate the possible short-and long-term consequences of their choices.

The development and implementation of an educational plan that leads to successful graduation or transfer enables the student to make informed decisions based on their research and reasoning.

VISION STATEMENT
The vision of the Office of Advising and Transfer Services at Marymount College is to assist in the development of men and women with maturity, intellectual curiosity and the skills to succeed. We show students how to take a proactive role in the academic advising process, which empowers them to make informed decisions about their future.

Academic advising at Marymount College reflects the college's commitment to student learning, persistence and success by:

  • Advocating a mutually-beneficial partnership between students and their academic advisors.
  • Providing vital information and resources that ensure successful graduation from the two-and four-year degree programs available at our College and/or transfer to other institutions.
  • Promoting an intentional teaching-learning process and development of critical thinking skills.
  • Developing partnerships in which academic advisors are accessible, knowledgeable and take a personal interest in each student.
