Welcome to the Service-Learning Program at Marymount College
Service is a key component in the College’s mission statement and Institutional Student Learning Outcomes. Anchored by the core principles of our founders, The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, our Marymount community makes a concerted effort to reflect the RSHM call to “respond to the needs of our time and to work with others in action for evangelical justice.” Each year Marymount students, faculty and staff perform hours of service in the greater Los Angeles community in order to help others while applying what they learn to the classroom curriculum. This powerful form of education benefits all involved.
Mission
The Center for Service-Learning promotes excellence in teaching and learning through service. Guided by the undergraduate curriculum, the Service-Learning program seeks to provide integrated service experiences that enhance the curriculum and serve as an integral element in each student’s academic experience. Following the tradition of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, we support members of the Marymount community who reach out to others through active and reflective service.
Vision
The Center forService-Learning will enhance Marymount’s mission by connecting classroom curriculum and community needs in dynamic service experiences. Through integrating Service-Learning as a core educational practice, we will create opportunities to expand our relationships with the broader community in mutually beneficial and inspiring ways.
