A multi-disciplinary full-text database with indexing and abstracts for over 8,450 periodicals, with full-text for more than 4,650 of those titles, including more than 3,900 peer-reviewed, scholarly journals.  This database covers nearly all academic areas of study - including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, arts & literature, and global studies. Access Science

Enhanced version of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology.  In addition to scholarly encyclopedia entries, it contains biographies of scientists and current science and technology research news.

 

Alt-Press Watch

A full text database of the newspapers, magazines and journals from alternative and independent presses. This interdisciplinary resource provides a valuable source of alternative viewpoints and perspectives to complement and challenge mainstream media coverage. (ProQuest Direct)

 

American History in Video

A collection of video available online for the study of American history, with 2,000 hours and more than 5,000 titles on completion. The collection allows students and researchers to analyze historical events, and their presentation over time, through commercial and governmental newsreels, archival footage, public affairs footage, and documentaries.

 

American National Biography

Authoritative full-text biographies on over 18,000 men and women of significance whose lives has shaped the nation.

 

ArchiveGrid

A resource for searching through nearly a million collection descriptions from thousands of libraries, museums, and archives. Information is provided on how to arrange a visit to archives or order copies of documents.

 

ARTstor

A digital library of more than one million images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and social sciences with a suite of software tools to view, present, and manage images for research and pedagogical purposes. The collection includes contributions from museums, photographers, libraries, scholars, photo archives, and artists and artists' estates.

 

Biography Resource Center

A comprehensive biographical reference database that provides more than 335,000 noteworthy people from around the world, throughout history and across all disciplines and subject areas.  Combines more than 427,000 full-text biographies from respected sources with full-text articles from nearly 300 periodicals.  (Gale)

 

Britannica Online

An online version of the Encyclopedia Britannica with the full text of articles and links to relevant websites.

 

Business & Company Resource Center

Provides company and industry profiles, financial information, full-text articles and investment reports.  Users can search by various criteria, including company, industry or personal name, ticker symbol, geographic region, subject, and SIC/NAICS code.  (Gale)

 

Business Source Elite

Provides full-text coverage of over 1,000 scholarly business, management, and economics journals (1985 - present).  This rich collection also includes publications covering topics such as accounting, banking, finance, international business, marketing, sales, etc.  More than 10,100 substantial company profiles from Datamonitor are also included. CAMIO

CAMIO—Catalog of Art Museum Images Online—contains about 95,000 high-resolution digital images of works of fine and decorative art from leading museums around the world. All content is rights-cleared for educational use in the classroom or to illustrate papers, Web projects and other assignments.  (OCLC)

 

Chronicle of Higher Education

The online version of academia's number one source for news, articles, commentaries and information related to higher education.  Premium content accessible on campus.

 

CQ Researcher

Provides in-depth reports on current social issues.  Most reports include introductory overviews; background and assessment of the current situation; pro/con statements from representatives of opposing positions; chronology on the topic, followed by short features of extensive context; a sampling of related international perspectives; maps and graphs; bibliographies of key resources, including links to relevant websites.

 

CQ Global Researcher

Published monthly, in-depth reports of global affairs from a number of international viewpoints,  covering a pressing political, social, environmental, or regional issue from around the globe. Each original report is written by a seasoned journalist with years of international experience and contains introductory overviews; background and assessment of the current situation; pro/con statements from representatives of opposing positions; chronology on the topic, followed by short features of extensive context; a sampling of related international perspectives; maps and graphs; bibliographies of key resources, including links to relevant websites.

 

Counseling and Therapy in Video

A database that provides a collection of video for the study of psychology, social work, psychotherapy and psychiatric counseling.  Videos are presented from multiple perspectives and include counseling sessions, consultations, interviews, demonstrations, lectures, and sychronized, searchable transcripts. 

 

CREDO Reference

Provides access to nearly 500 reference titles, including encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and more.  Covers all subjects.

 

 

Current Issues:  Reference Shelf Plus

Free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals covering all subjects and languages. Includes access to over 4000 journals.

 

 

Encyclopedia of Global Warming

Authoritative coverage of the science, policy and social issues surrounding global warming and climate change. The essays in this encyclopedia address a broad range of topics, from scientific concepts to social issues to current laws, organizations, and people. (Salem)

 

ERIC

This database from the Educational Resource Information Center index to periodicals, books, reports, and other materials related to all aspects of education (1966-present).  Some ERIC documents are available full-text from the U.S. Department of Education ERIC website.  (EBSCO)

 

Ethnic NewsWatch

An interdisciplinary, bilingual (English and Spanish) and comprehensive full text database of the over 290 newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press in America from 1990 to the present. (ProQuest Direct)

 

GenderWatch

Full text database of over 140 unique and diverse publications that focus on women's issues and how gender impacts a broad spectrum of subject areas, including scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, booklets, and reports.  Some archival material as far back as 1974. GreenFILE

Citations and selected full-text of articles and reports related to the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology.  Includes scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports. (EBSCO)

 

Health Source

Full-text articles from periodicals iin health and medicine, as well as selected pamphlets and reference books.  Includes information related to nutrition, exercise, self-care, drugs and alcohol and nursing.  Choose from one of four databases or search all databases together (includes: Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition, Health Source Consumer Edition, Alt HealthWatch) (EBSCO)

 

HighWire Press

Full-text articles, primarily covering the natural sciences. This link is to a journals list with free content.  Searching HighWire Press will also generally include content that is pay-per-view or to which the Library may not have access.

 

LexisNexis Academic

Access over 10,000 news, business, and legal sources. The news coverage includes deep backfiles and up-to-the-minute stories in national and regional newspapers, wire services, broadcast transcripts, international news, and non-English language sources.

 

LexisNexis Statistical Insight & DataSets

Provides access to statistical information produced by U.S. Federal agencies, States, private organizations, and major intergovernmental organizations.  The DataSets module aggregates over 590 licensed and public domain datasets provided by over 50 sources and makes that data available from within a single interface. Users scan the contents of these datasets, select subjects and variables of interest, and view the data in side-by-side tables and charts.

 

Literature Resource Center

Provides access to biographies, bibliographies, and critical analysis of authors from every age and literary discipline.  Covers more than 90,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists, and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,000 of the most-studied authors.  (Gale)

 

LitFinder

More than 135,000 full-text poems, stories, plays and more.  Content includes complete works and excerpts, and additional information such as biographies, essays and explanations.  (Gale)

 

MEDLINE

Health information published by the National Library of Medicine on a wide range of topics.

 

Mergent Online

Mergent Online is a suite of information resources that enables in-depth business and financial research.

 

National Newspaper Index

Full-text articles from five major newspapers: Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. (Proquest Direct)

 

Newspaper Source

Provides selected full-text for nearly 30 national (U.S.) and international newspapers.  The databases also contains selected full-text from more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers, including The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, The Detroit Free Press, The Miami Herald, The New York Daily News, etc.  In addition, full-text television & radio news transcripts are provided from CBS News, FOX News, NPR, etc.  Most coverage dates from the late 1990s.  (EBSCO)

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center

Information about controversial social issues, including full text articles from magazines, newspapers, selected books, pro and con opinion pieces, statistics, primary source documents, and links to websites.  (Gale)

 

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography

Provides authoritative biographies on 57,000 deceased men and women who shaped the history of Britain.

 

ProQuest Research Library

Contains article abstracts from over 5,000 popular magazines and scholarly journals in all subject areas. Full-text articles are available for 3,000 of those magazines and journals.

 

ProQuest Psychology Journals

Contains full text coverage from top psychology and related publications. (Part of ProQuest Direct)

 

ProQuest Religion

A comprehensive collection of nearly 100 leading journals covering religious issues and perspectives, including religious news and information, commentary on topics of general interest from the perspective of a particular religion, and formal theological studies.

 

PsycARTICLES

A database containing articles from over 70 journals published by esteemed organizations such as the American Pscyhological Association and the Canadian Psychological Association.

 

PubMed

Citations for life sciences (i.e. biology) journal articles from the US National Library of Medicine. Use the Advanced Search and select "links to free full text" to find full articles. 

 

RAND California

Statistical tables and reports from RAND, one of the nation's premier think tanks.  Focus is on California and U.S. public policy issues, with data and research addressing economics, populations and demographics, education, health care, government and more.  Much of the data are available at the national, state, county, city, and zip code levels and is updated on a regular basis.

 

Salem History

Provides access to the Decade Series with full-text articles on the people and events of the 1950's - 1990's and the Milestone Documents Series with the full-text of primary sources in U.S. history.

 

World Almanac

Facts and statistics from the current year of the World Almanac and Book of Facts and other World Almanac publications.

 

WorldCat

Records of materials (books, manuscripts, videos, musical scores, etc.) catalogued by OCLC member libraries.  Contains over 50 million records from libraries worldwide.
