Community Mass
Catholic Mass is celebrated in the Chapel every Wednesday at C-hour, 12-1 pm. All are welcome to join the students, faculty and staff who come together to worship and to strengthen our community bonds in faith. No other programs are held throughout the College during Mass as a sign of the centrality of our spiritual life and its connection to all our work, study and endeavors. Students are especially invited to help lead the service through various roles: Lectors proclaim the word of God; Eucharistic Ministers help to distribute communion; choir members and musicians lead the congregation in song. Those who attend are nourished by word and sacrament, and help to nourish the wider community through witness and prayer.
Wednesday Mass is also integrated into the educational life of the campus. Very often, themes from College life and activities are examined through a spiritual lens. Some of the cultural and educational topics that have been shared include: Hispanic Heritage, Black History Month, Alcohol Awareness Week, and Earth Day. Our awareness of cultural and religious diversity may be broadened through a Native American liturgy or Mass with the Deaf community. Bishop Joseph Sartoris and regional Bishop Oscar Solis join us at different times of the year, strengthening our bonds with the universal Church.
Other Chapel services include Midday Meditation on weekdays at C-hour, Reconciliation Services, and Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on Fridays.
Ecumenical/ Interfaith Services
To foster an understanding and appreciation of the religious pluralism in our community, Campus Ministry sponsors the Student Interfaith Council to advise and plan events. Members of different faith traditions on campus come together to share and celebrate the richness of their religious heritages. The "Week of Prayer for Christian Unity" is observed in late January. An annual “Interfaith Thanksgiving Prayer Service” is celebrated, as is “The National Day of Prayer.” At these services, students representing Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Native American traditions have shared sacred passages, reflections and prayers. We have also celebrated Jewish and Islamic holidays, and we welcome new initiatives from other religious traditions.
